Construction was started in April, 2019 on a new CTE high school facility for the Oglala Lakota County School District. The district did not have a high school, so this is their first facility for the upper grade levels. The new 78,800 sq. ft. facility is designed for an enrollment of 400 students and is master planned with future additions to accommodate another 320 students. The building incorporates cultural symbolism for a unique learning environment. Along with flexible classrooms, included in the design are specialized CTE classrooms for accounting, IT, HVAC, electrical, plumbing and welding curriculums. Other amenities include a gymnasium that will seat 1,400 spectators, locker rooms, wrestling room, fitness areas, commons/cafeteria space, commercial kitchen, Lakota room, administrative space, library, F.A.C.S., science, art, special education areas, and ancillary support spaces. The facility incorporates a geothermal HVAC system, LED lighting and energy conservation design elements. Site development includes a separate bus loop and parking lot for 200 vehicles. The site has been master planned for future additions to the school, a new District administration building, and a football / track stadium.
