Located in Belle Fourche, South Dakota- Pioneer Bank and Trust has been a stable and significant part of the Community since 1937. The aging existing facility needed interior and exterior renovations to meet modern banking operations. The building renovation also needed to develop an image that highlighted the existing building, yet transformed it into a sustainable image for the future.
To allow for exterior light to reach all the interior first floor spaces, the exterior walls between the existing masonry corners were removed and steel beams and columns were added. This allowed for new aluminum storefront infills on all four sides of the building. This also provided the structural support for extended horizontal overhangs, new slanted roof structure, new corrugated metal, and aluminum wood paneled siding and soffits. A large canopy was added to the west side of the building to shelter customers. These improvements highlighted a significant contrast between the existing brick structure and new steel members.
